Ten on Tuesday #11 -10 Things You Want for the Holiday

Do they have to be presents I would actually get? I say no!
1. A maid that will keep my house clean and cook our meals. :-)
2. A new car.
3. I cheated and saw this on the Neiman Marcus Christmas book - Guinness® Authentic Guinness Home Pub Package. The funny thing is my home pub would cost more than my house!
4. A large spread of land to build a house and have room for horses and a ton of animals.
5. Somebody to come in and help clothes shop. I mean someone to help me get really cool outfits that I feel good wearing!
6. A trip to Ireland or Italy.
7. My niece showed me this yesterday, it is a digital picture frame, but it is the size of 32" t.v. They have it on Brookstone's web site. This would be nice to show off my pictures I take.
8. A gourmet kitchen.....for the maid of course.
9. Walk in shower with one of those waterfall faucets....mmmm relaxing!
10. For my family and friends to have a prosperous and healthy year!!

Twilight and a Touching Story

It has been so long since I updated. Things have been crazy busy, which is a good thing, but I am ready to slow down just a bit.

We (10 of us) went and saw the movie Twilight on the 20th at midnight showing. The movie was great. I have heard several comments that it wasn't as good as they expected, but let me just say this: It is a movie based off a pre-teen - teen novel. I loved it and so did my teen daughter! I hope you get a chance to go see it.

Now on to the touching story:

This lady right here is our Mamaw. She is 97 years old and lived on her own until she suffered a small stroke. She is always so chipper and happy and she didn't retired until she was in well in 80's. Within the past year we have seen her decline and before her decline she always talked about how much she loved being at the nursing home, so we know they are very nice to her and treat her well. She gets her hair done, her nails are always polished and she is treated with respect.
Her memory is starting to decline and at times gets very confused. She says she wants to go "home" and at times tells us she has been visited by someone who has passed away years ago. My parents went with other family members to have a Thanksgiving dinner with her this past weekend. While they were enjoying themselves, a nurse came in and checked to make sure they had everything they needed and she decided she would share a story about Mamaw.
She said she was pretty new there and had happened by Mamaws room, she noticed that the door was shut. She knocked on the door and asked her if she was okay. Mamaw replied "Don't come in here". The nurse asked again if everything was okay and Mamaw's reply was "I said don't come in here." The nurse explained that she then tried to open the door and it was met with some resistance and she was concerned that Mamaw was okay. She went ahead and pushed the door open a little more and said she was wanting to make sure everything was alright. When she came through the door, there sat Mamaw with a very disappointed expression on her face and Mamaw looked at her and said "Oh no, now you have done it, now you will never get out of here".
It really touched my heart to hear my dad tell me this story, I know Mamaw is happy and treated well, but it still is sad. I haven't been able to go and visit her as often as I would like to, to be honest she doesn't really know who I am anymore. I will be going by to visit her this week and plan on going more often.
I hope you have a wonderful week and I will be trying to update again soon.

Life

I received this email from my grandfather today, and just went wow. I jut felt it was a great insight and plan on using many of these ideas in my life. (I already have been reading more :-) Hope you enjoy!
1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

5. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.

13. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and flowing energy into your life.
14. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts, or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

22. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.
23. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
24. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years will this matter?'
26. Forgive everyone for everything.
27. What other people think of you is none of your business.
28. GOD heals almost everything.
29. However good or bad a situation is it will change.
30. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
31. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful, or joyful.
32. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

Ten on Tuesday #9 - 10 Things that Scare You/Freak You Out

This one was pretty easy for me, I am a scaredy cat!
1. Not hearing from my kids or husband and thinking something bad has happened to them.
2. Tornado's - Living in Texas we get our fair share of close calls. Our business was struck by one that hit in Downtown Fort Worth, luckily we weren't there but it took months to get things back in order.
3. Losing a close family member. I have been very lucky and am so thankful this has not happened to me.
4. Feeling like I have let someone down. I become obsessed in trying to figure out what I did wrong.
5. Really scary or freaky movies. When Night Falls is one of them. It's not like there is an evil tooth fairy out there that is trying to kill people, but I had nightmares about that movie!
6. My kids and their future. We always wish the best for our kids, but I sometimes panic that I have shared with them all they need to know.
7. Throw up. Enough said!
8. Having someone come over when my house is in shambles.
9. A bad hair day.
10. Broken hearts. No matter how hard you try to mend them, they will never go back quite the same again.

Thursday Thirteen #4

I have really been behind on keeping up my blog, so I decided I better update or I will be hearing about it. :-) This week I thought I would post the thirteen things I look forward to about fall. Of course it is still about a month and half away for us, boy I can't wait.
1. Relief from this Texas heat. I love walking outside and feeling that brisk air.
2. Making some of my favorite "winter" recipes. Two of my favorite are: Chicken Tortilla Soup and of course Chili.
3. Getting the down comforter out and on the bed. I love it when we have a cool night and you are able to snuggle in under that.
4. Being able to have a fire in the fireplace. We have one in our bedroom and it is so nice to fall asleep to the crackling of firewood.
5. Sweats! I love coming home from work and putting on some comfy sweats.
6. New TV shows! By the time fall gets here I am so tired of reruns.
7. The smell of the heater turning on for the first time.
8. Big comfy slippers. I love slippers and I love for my feet to be warm so I have several pairs, but always have room for more.
9. Sitting in our hot tub on a cool evening with my hubby and a glass of wine.
10. The smell of our chimnea burning on a cool evening.
11. Seeing the leaves starting to change color. (I do hate trying to keep them out of my pool after they fall.)
12. Not having to mow the lawn or do all the yard work anymore!
13. Last but not least, it seems we spend more time together as a family and I love spending time with my family!
Happy Thursday everyone!

1. Jesus - Now, I am in no hurry to meet him, I am enjoying being here with my family to rush it. I have so many questions I would like to ask him.
2. Annie Oakley - I wouldn't want to live during this time frame, but I would love to sit and visit with her. I was always fascinated reading about her.

5. Michael Jackson - Not that I am a fan of his, I would love to sit down and ask him what the heck happened to him. It fascinates me how someone can be on top of the world and then take such a u-turn.
6. Grace from Amazing Grace-Not the actress, but the character. I think she would be a blast to hang out with for a night.
7. Oprah - It would be neat to sit and visit with her.
8. John Travolta - What a career he has had, another one I would love to just talk with.
9. Michael Phelps - He is amazing.
10. Jonas Brothers-Okay I know this one is out there, but my daughter is such a huge fan, if I could I would love to meet them and take her with me so she would be one happy girl.

Thursday Thirteen #3 - What I Did Instead Of Updating My Blog

Wow! Where did the time go? I have not updated this in a while and if I don't do it soon, I will be getting a "friendly" reminder from my sister to update my blog! So I decided to list 13 things I have done besides blogging.

1. I managed to get some cleaning done at the house. Now don't give me too much credit, I said SOME! But hey getting anything done right now is almost a miracle.

2. Work has been crazy busy, so by the time I get home I have not had much energy to get much of anything else done besides the everyday cooking and picking up.

3. Missy is getting ready to start back to school and we registered her for school, got a physical and even managed to get some school clothes and supply shopping done.

4. Nate starts college on Monday, we had some papers that needed to be turned in and several other misc. things so we spent a morning at the college trying to get everything turned in. We also visited the book store and spent over $450 on books.

5. Missy wanted to go spend a few of the last days of summer with her wonderful aunt out in the "country" so after work one evening we drove her out there. I hope she isn't driving her nuts right now. :-)

6. I managed to spend over an hour on the phone with HP about my laptop. I have been having problems with it for a few months, so bad that at times it was just useless. I just hadn't had time to troubleshoot. After some time on the internet I discovered there was a recall. Whooohoo! After spending an hour on the phone with "Bob" who I later found out was somewhere on the other side of the world they agreed to allow me to send it to them and possibly getting it fixed. We shall see.

7. Nate decided he needed a new TV for his room. Well....he decided that after Hubby said he wasn't going to take over our TV any more. We went to Wally World and picked up his TV. He worked this summer and saved up some money so this was his first major appliance purchase. We spent Friday evening putting together his TV stand and hooking everything up.

8. I cleaned out mine and Hubby's dresser's. (How do we get so much crap stuffed in dresser drawers?) Receipts, paper clips, etc. I thought it was supposed to house socks and underwear.

9. Managed to watch some of the Olympics. Let me say Michael Phelps is amazing!

10. Eat dinner.

11. Shower (LOL).

12. Sleep. (Not very much of it, but some).

13. And finally thought of everything that I did over the past week and I just updated my blog, so sis you can't razz me!

Random Thursday Thirteen - #3

I had to go totally random this week, so here are thirteen random things.
1. Nate finally got registered for his classes at college. I had no idea it was going to be such a major ordeal to get him registered!
2. Missy has been reading all week long. She is my reader and she is now reading Twilight that her wonderful aunt YellowRose bought for her.
3. We had a neighborhood crime watch meeting last night. We used to have one but due to "those" neighbors we are getting it started back up again. It was very informative and we all now feel we have the support of our police department.
4. I can't believe school is getting ready to start again, we actually went and bought a few items for Missy to start back to school. I try to get this done early so we do not have to go when there are huge crowds.
5. I have hives all over today, I think this is a delayed reaction from some major stress that has been going on the past few weeks. I even have them on the bottom of my feet so it feels like I have something huge in my shoes. *Ouch*
6. The temperature has actually been below 100º finally. We had 12 days straight of temps over 100º. We actually have a chance for rain this weekend. *YEAH*
7. With the temps being so high, so many of my plants are looking so sad. I have definately lost four of them to the temps and one by a mischievous black Lab.
8. Tomorrow my BIL graduates and I really wish I could go to the ceremony, but we are going to meet for a celebration dinner that evening and as always with our crew I know it will be a blast!
9. Hubby's knee is bothering him again, I sure hope he is not going to have to go in again. The Doc told us last time if he continues with the problems he will have to have it replaced. He has done everything he can do. :-(
10. I have been having some really weird dreams lately. The other night Missy woke up in the middle of the night and came in and laid down with me. The next day she told me I had grabbed her face and was really mad. (Luckily she is one tough cookie and just threw my hand off and woke me up.) Needless to say she went back to her bed. :-)
11. Work has really picked up this month. Seems like we can't stay ahead. That is a good problem to have, but just hope we can meet all these deadlines.
12. I miss my neice. I have to give her a call tonight and see how she is doing. She started a new job and the store was just getting ready to open.
13. Well that is about as RANDOM as any I have seen before. It kind of reflects on how my mind has been over the last few weeks. Happy Thursday everyone!

Someone is Watching you

lookatthateye, originally uploaded by sheeshintx.

Found this critter in my front yard tonight.

Way too hot!

One of the biggest topics here is the heat! I know living in Texas you have to get used to having hot temperatures, but this is just plain ridiculous. The temps have been between 104-107 and let me tell you there is no such thing as dry heat. It is just plain hot outside. My plants are all turning an ugly shade of brown no matter how much I try to keep them watered and my air conditioner is running almost non-stop.
I went in the garage yesterday to get some things out of the spare fridge and I broke a sweat just being in there the few minutes I was there. We have a pool, but it is even too hot to get out in the pool. I did absolutely nothing yesterday! I went on line and played Scrabble on my favorite game site http://www.pogo.com and other than that I couldn't make myself do anything else!
This is the time of year that I have empathy for those who work outdoors.
I hope everyone has a great week, mine will be spent trying to find a way to stay cool!

Friday Fill-Ins #83

1. If I could travel back in time, I'd go to a time where things were much more simple and we didn't have so many selfish people.
2. Give me a margarita or give me a martini.
3. I am listening to to the news about this Crypto outbreak that North Texas is having (Glad we have our own pool) and about Exxon's billions they made at our expense.
4. Somewhere, someone is thinking about something.
5. I'll always be me, nobody can change that!
6. My idea of a good time includes spending time with family doing anything and everything.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to picking my daughter up from my sisters, tomorrow my plans include possibly going to Red Dirt Roundup in the Stockyards (still thinking if I want brave the 100+ temps) and Sunday, I want to catch up on housework and get some rest!

'10 Things to Do When It's Too Hot to Go Outside'

This is a very appropriate title since our temperatures have reached 105 the last few days and it appears they will stay there the rest of the week. I love living in Texas, but when the temps get this high I really start to miss living up north.
1. One of our favorite things to do rent movies and have a movie day. We pop popcorn and watch movie after movie. This past weekend we watched a favorite of mine Phenomenon with John Travolta.
2. Go to the movies at the mall. We went to see The Dark Knight and it was awesome!
3. Spend some time at the mall. I went twice this week and it was so nice to be in somewhere cool and be around people. I am a people watcher!
4. Last night we went to dinner and had a wonderful frozen margarita, now that sure helps you cool off. Well until the tequila kicks in and starts making you sweat - right mom?
5. We have a swimming pool and it does help with the heat, but right now it is almost too hot for even that.
6. This is the time of the year I usually will do my "spring" cleaning. Since spring is so short in Texas I usually wait to do my deep cleaning until it is too hot to go outside.
7. I haven't done this one this year, but over the last few years we would make homemade ice cream.
Okay, I thought this one would be easy, but I I only came up with 7. So I will be visiting other bloggers to find out what else we can do!
Happy Tuesday!

.3. Why so much to do and such little time?
4. Something is out there, it's my dogs and they are barking again.
5. If my life were a sitcom, it would be titled Print Me Some Time.
6. Sitting on my back porch [if you don't have one, use your imagination] I see my plants, pool and my neighbors that overlook my yard.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to maybe going to dinner with my honey, tomorrow my plans include getting the house clean and Sunday, I want to have a do nothing kind of day!

Wordless Wednesday-My Preemie 18 Years Ago

I came across this photo and thought I would use it. Excuse the 80's bangs, but after a month in the hospital to keep from having him and having a preemie baby, a haircut was the last thing on my mind! He weighed 3lb 14oz ,he is 18 now and is 6ft 5" tall. This was when he was 4 days old and finally was taken off the respirator. He was two months early. I was so scare to hold him!
After posting this, I was asked to post a current picture to show my son. So here you go.

10 Memorable Vacation Moments

1. I was around 6 and we went to Florida. While at the campground, there was a pond with a ton of ducks in there. My sister and I had so much fun playing with them, that when it was time to leave, my sister helped me to sneak a baby duck in the back seat of the car. We hadn't made it out of the camp ground when the baby duck needed to poop. Let me tell you, it was not a pretty sight and my mom was very unhappy with us. If I recall correctly she could not even help with the cleanup!
2. Visiting my uncle in Texas and going to Astrolworld. Mom wanted to take a picture of us on a METAL horse statue. Mind you it was 100 + degrees in Texas. We had the fakest smiles on our face because our legs were being scalded!! See picture below!

3. We were visiting family in Tennessee and I love horses. My cousin and sister took me out to some land where my cousin had some horses. I wanted to ride one so badly but they had no bridle. Well the "older" girls decided I could ride with an elastic belt that came off one of their shorts and use that as reins. Needless to say that didn't go well and I almost wound up in the pond at the bottom of the hill! (I see a pattern here do you?)

4. On another trip, I believe it was to Tennessee again, big sis and I were going to ride a pony. The saddle was not on tight and when sis went to get on the saddle went sideways and she fell off. (I guess that was paybacks :-)

5. Travelling to Texas and my uncle taking us to the beach. I still can feel the sunburn. They showed us how seagulls would swoop down if you offered them any food. One time while we were there, he was fishing and actually caught a shark.

6. For my grandparents 50th wedding anniversay they took their whole family to Puerta Villarta Mexico. There was over 20 of us and they came as far as Chicago. It was so much fun!!

7. Hubby and I (being poor newlyweds) took a road trip to Corpus Christi. We had more fun on that trip and really didn't do anything special, just spent time together. He started a tradition on that trip. Whenever there is sand he makes a huge (usually 6 or 7 feet long) sand shark sculpture.

8. Hubby and I went with friends to Oklahoma for a week. We rented a cabin on the lake. We spent the week water skiing and just had a wonderful week of relaxation.

9. Our trip with my mom and dad. We went to Cozumel, Mexico for a week. It was wonderful and I really think that help with the kids bonding with their grandparents. We keep saying we really need to do that again, and I hope we do soon!

10. Most recently our trips have were built around Nate's baseball of football. He played in a multi state allstar game (in high school) in Oklahoma and it was a great trip. Even with all the baseball games we did take time to visit the OKC Bombing Memorial and took in many wonderful sights.

The Weekend in Review

We had a great weekend this weekend. So here is a recap!

Friday evening we decided to meet Yellowrose and Big D at the casino in OK. Even though none of us came home a ton richer, we had a great time. We had dinner at the Steak House there and it was so pleasant just sitting there visiting.
Saturday Hubby had a meeting in the morning, but after his meeting we went and met Yellowrose and Miss Priss and went to Peach Fest. Now whoever thought of having Peach Fest in Texas when it is the hottest day of the year didn't plan this out very well. It reached 102° and let me tell you this much that is HOT!! We didn't stay as long as we thought we would for that very reason. After we went back to Yellowrose's we had a discussion about why in the world would they have it when it is so hot, and I (being my sacrastic self) pointed out it might be tough to have a Peach Fest in February when it is cooler here. Tee hee.
Sunday Hubby, Missy and I worked on getting the house in order. It always feels so good to have a clean, freshly scrubbed house. Next weekend Missy has our weekend planned for us, she has decided we need to redecorate her room. She found a beautiful little comforter and the always creative Yellowrose pointed out we could decorate with huge Gerber Daisy's.

So that means we will be painting her room. Ugghh I hate painting, but I know it will look great!

Hope everyone had as fun of a weekend as I did. Have a great week!

Totally Random

Well I didn't do my Thursday 13, so I thought I would just list some radom things that have been going on.

Hubby has been sick since July 3rd and it has been tough. It started out as a simple cold and it lead to a sinus infection and ear infections. Today is the first day he has felt human again and was able to come to work. Missy just messaged me and said "Mom, I think I am getting sick". UGGHHHH NOOOO! So I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is not going to be shared throughout the whole family.

We are dog sitting a friends dog this week. She was actually our dog, but due to the fact she was very energetic and Hubby's knee giving out on him and he couldn't walk her, we had to find her a new home. It was hard, but we knew she needed a home where they would be able to take her for walks and she really needed to be the only dog. Needless to say it has been interesting having four (yes I said four) dogs running throughout our house.

Work has been crazy busy. We had two weeks that were really slow, then it appears everyone realized they were slacking off at work and said oh no I need to get my projects done that I put off. I guess that is a good thing, but sure makes the days crazy.

I have been having an awful time going to sleep at night. I have been in bed by 8 and it is still midnight or later before I go to sleep. I don't know if it is stress, too much caffeine (but I need that to stay awake during the day because I am not sleeping) or what. Anyone have some tips? I feel like I need to walk around with toothpicks propping my eyes open during the day and really could use a good 8 hours sleep.

Guess I need to get some things done. Have a great day!!

What A Weekend!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend. I know I sure did! We started out by going to my sister's for a wonderful cookout. Boy does she know how to throw a party. We had a great time with family and friends. The only thing that was not perfect that day was, Hubby was home sick. He has come down with a nasty summer cold and we are getting him to the doctor this morning.

Saturday I did a bit of recuperating and then started tearing into my house. Missy has decided that she wants the bathroom that she and her brother share to be a little bit more feminine. It was originally done in a Nautical theme. She and I went on a mission and found a really cute black and white polka dot shower curtain. In order to soften it we bought some bright pink towels and all the goodies for the sink area. We did buy Nate a black toothbrush holder so he would not be required to use a pink toothbrush holder.

I still need to find a white rug for just outside the bathtub and get something for the wall in there. Other than that we have it pretty much done. We also cleaned closets out and are seriously thinking of having a garage sale. I am just a little concerned about having one now since the temperatures are hitting the triple digits. I guess if we only do it in the morning it shouldn't be too bad.

I hope everyone has a great week! I know I plan on it.

10 On Tuesday-Sports I Like to Play or Watch

http://www.yanowhatimean.com/tuesday/

  • 1. Nate has played football since he was 7, so I would have to say this has become my favorite, plus it is something Hubby and I can both watch and enjoy.

  • 2. Baseball seems to be getting a bit boring to me, but I still love to go out to the ballpark and watch a game at least once a year. (Where else can you get a hot dog and peanuts that are that good.)

  • 3. I like to watch hockey, but not as much as my Hubby.

  • 4. Now on to something I like to play. I have always loved basketball (notice I didn't say good), but I do like to shoot some hoops with the kids.

  • 5. Growing up, I played fast pitched softball for years, since I had back surgery I have not been able to play this anymore. It is a favorite of mine!

  • 6. Is water volleyball a sport? I enjoy playing that one.

  • 7. Ping Pong, now that is a cool sport. I like it when they get going all across the room!

  • 8. We like to go to the horse races at least once a year, and I like watching the races.

  • 9. I like walking (for exercise that is). I put my earphones in and head off and I lose track of time. The hard part is living in Texas when we are reaching 100 degree temps, I am not getting out in that.

  • 10. I honestly can't come up with another, which makes me realize I need to get out and take up a few additional sports!

Thursday Thirteen #1 - Getting To Know Me

Since this is my first post on Thursday Thirteen, I thought I would take this opportunity to tell 13 random facts about me.
  1. I used to blog, but I had a hard time keeping it updated. My lovely sister has inspired me to start blogging again. Participating in this I believe will help keep me going.
  2. I have been married to Hubby for 19 wonderful years and we have two children, Nate and Missy.
  3. We own 3 dogs. Two Black Labs (they are like 2 year olds that run all through the house) and an emotionally disturbed Bichon/Mini Poodle mix (is scared of everything).
  4. I love to take photo's. Notice I did not say I am a photographer. I have a Cannon Rebel XTI which helps me take some pretty decent shots. I think with time and some additional research I will get better in time.
  5. One of the fun things we like to do is go to the Casino. Now, we aren't big gamblers, but we do like to get away from life on occasion and who knows maybe someday we will hit the jackpot.
  6. We are part owners of a commercial printing company in Fort Worth, Texas. So yes not only do I see Hubby everyday, but I also work with him. Many people are surprised that we have such a great relationship and are able to work so well together.
  7. I was born and raised in Chicago, Ill. Moved to Texas when I was 15. Although it was hard to leave my friends behind, I love living in Texas and don't think I would ever move back.
  8. My favorite color is purple
  9. My favorite t.v. show is House.
  10. I love it when it rain
  11. My favorite time of year is spring when the flowers are all starting to bloom and before the Texas heat kicks in.
  12. There is no sweeter smell than a newborn baby.
  13. I am a sucker for animals. Once I sat out in a storm for 30 minutes with a dog that we chased out of a 6 lane road, he was bumped by a car at the last minute and we wrapped him with a blanket until Animal Control could arrive. If I had some land and the funds, I know that I would have it filled to rim with animals.

Cutting the Cost for Senior Year

I promised I would post some pictures of an idea that I came up with in order to cut some of the major cost of having a Senior in High School, so here it is. Everyone knows kids are expensive, but just wait until their Senior year. You know, they must have all the "Senior" items that are pushed on them by the school. It starts with the Senior T-Shirts, Senior pictures, cap and gown, graduation announcements, and so on and so on.
I refused to go in and pay to have photo's taken and pay $600-$800 for professional photo's. I have a great digital camera and what more do I love than taking photo's of my kids....nothing. We loaded up and went to the Botanical Gardens here in Fort Worth with a few change of clothes. I took the photo's in April, since I knew it wasn't going to take long for me to get the announcements done. (We own a printing company.) I also didn't want to take pictures in August and then hand them out 10 moths later, even though he was 18 he really did change alot during that time frame. Nate's girlfriend came along with us, so I was able to get some great shots of them as a couple along with taking a ton of pictures of him. Here are a few of the shots we took, we also had some really funny ones because he was at ease with me taking the photo's.

Here we told him to give us his "sexy" pose. We actually used this one on his cake at his graduation party!

It was such a fun day and we have so many fun memories of taking those photo's.

10 Inventions That Have Made Life Easier

This is my first post for a 10 on Tuesday:

1. It goes with out saying my number one item is my laptop. Not being tied down to the desk makes it so nice to surf the net. It has a 17" widescreen so it is not one I carry around all the time, but sure makes it nice for viewing!

2. Would have to be my cell phone. Although at times I have to remind myself that it does have an off button on it. I have been out trying to enjoy a day of shopping and the kids would call it over and over again about the smallest things!

3. Is my digital camera. What a waste of film I had before I invested in my camera. Now I just snap away and if the photo's are bad I just delete them. I think it has also helped me become a better photographer because I don't hesitate to snap all those shots.

4. The next one is not really a new item, but an improved item, so I am calling a new invention. It is the gallon sized Lipton Tea Bags. For years I have had to unwrap 4-5 large tea bags and if I made the mistake of buying the little ones, 8-10 of those. I happened on the gallon size bags and it I really don't mind making iced tea anymore.

5. I wouldn't know what I would do if I didn't have my pool cleaner. I love having a swimming pool, but I don't have much time for maintanence. This item pretty much makes taking care of my pool a breeze. We have given it the name "Alien".

6. This one is rather new to us, but I have to say the hard to get around to excercising has become a little easier with it. Let me tell you, the hula hoop on advanced will really burn some calories! It is our Wii Fit. You lose track of time also, so you spend more time "buring calories".

7. USB drives. I love being able to just grab files and go without burning CD's. Also in the print industry they are a must! (Speaking of that sis I think I left mine at your house)

8. This one kind of goes with number 3. My hubby bought me a digital picture frame and I love it! It is so nice to walk in the room and see all my photo's scrolling, it is not the same picture. Sometimes I find myself stopping and just looking at them all over and over again.

9. My vacuum! With two Labs, we have massive amounts of black dog hair that seems to just jump off those dogs. I brush them 3 times a week and use anti shed shampoo, but it is still a battle. I have a Bissell vacuum that really does it's job!

10. Panini maker it is. We love making these and it is so easy the kids will actually make their own. Anything that makes less time in the kitchen for me is a winner!!!

Come on sis, tell me how to get that little button on there instead of the link.

What a Weekend!

It was a pretty busy weekend here. Missy had gone to my sister's house for a few days so Friday night Hubby and I went North to the casino. After the week we had had, it was a real stress reliever. Didn't do as well as we have done in the past, but had a great time!

Read about our adventure over at http://www.yellowrosesgarden.com/ . Please make note of the picture of my bright daughter fishing on the wrong side of the sidewalk. :-) Actually she had just yanked her line out because it was caught in some plants, but the photo is pretty funny!

Sunday was a lazy day! We did manage to get our grocery shopping done, and Hubby actually went with me. I love having him go with me, it sure makes it less of a task!

I have been kicking around the idea of having a garage sale. I always say after I have one, that I won't do that again, but I have so much clutter building up at my house. Anyone have any good tips on making a garage sale less painful?

Well that is my weekend in nutshell. How was your weekend?

A Little About Me

I have always been terrible at updating information, but things have started to slow down just a bit, so I am going to attempt to stay on top of this. I guess I should start by telling you a little bit about me.
I have been happily married to my knight in shining armor for 19 years. I couldn't ask for a better husband and father to my children. We are part owners of a commercial printing company that is located in Fort Worth, Texas. That in itself is enough to keep us pretty busy, but we also have two wonderful children. Nate is 18, he just graduated high school and is trying to figure out what he is going to do with his life. Missy (her alias) is 12 going on 17 so we have lots of middle school drama that runs in our house. Also she has a major obsession right now, two words:
Jonas Brothers Is it healthy for a 12 year old to eat, drink and sleep over a boy band?
To round out our family we have three dogs. Two Black Labs and a Bichon/Miniature Poodle mix. The Labs are as bad as having kids! The two get to rough housing that at times I get caught in the middle and am worried I will get knocked down.

Photobucket

Well that is the short version, but isn't that what a blog is about? Telling a story a little at a time.
